Frequently Asked Questions
|
|
Every time one of our users emails our support desk with a common question which
is not listed on our FAQ, we update it, so hopefully all of the common questions
can be answered here immediately for you, without having to wait for support to
get back to you.

Contacting Us
|
|
You are not responding to my emails, what
can I do?
We respond to emails very quickly here, but sometimes our customers spell their
email address wrongly, or are using an email address which is old and not
working any more.
If you have put up
a property advert, you will have already received at least one, and probably
more emails from us, if you haven't then something is wrong. You could have a
spam filter on your email program, or with your ISP which is blocking our
emails, nevertheless it needs to be sorted out.
Please check your
email address with us is correct by clicking the Contact Details button on your
advert editing screen and changing it to one you are certain which works. Also
you can use our contact page with an email address
which you are sure works, and we will always reply to that address. Your email
address is very important, as this is the way prospective purchasers will get in
touch with you when they are interested in your property, so make sure its
working.
Can I contact you via telephone?
We try and run as competitive a service as possible. If we have to maintain
telephone support then our operations would be much more costly, and so would
our property ads! Our policy is to reply to all emails within 24 hours, usually
its a lot faster than that. This way we keep our ad costs down. Remember, if you
are unhappy with our service, we have a full 7 days no quibble money back
guarantee, so rest assured we will help you all we can!

Putting Up a Property Advert
|
|
How much does it cost to use Move Home
Online?
We do not have any hidden charges, we will inform you of all costs clearly
before you commit yourself. Our advert prices can be found by
clicking HERE. If you decide to take one of our paid property ads you will
pay the fee and there will not be any additional costs incurred
by you unless you specifically request some extra service from us. Your advert
will remain with us until sold.
How do I get my photos on the web site?
When you put up your advert, you will have the opportunity to send us your
photographs directly across the internet, this is called uploading. Your photos
must already be in digital file format though (of type Jpg). If you have a
digital camera, we recommend you set it up on the lowest resolution (smallest
photo), no more than 600x480 pixels would be ideal to speed up the uploading
process. Our software will resize and sharpen up your photographs automatically
when they are uploaded.
You will not need a scanner, just a way of getting the photographs from your
camera to your computer. Usually this is done via USB cable. Once your advert is
up, you can add and remove photographs at will, so do not worry too much about
getting it right first time.
What advert types do you offer?
Click here to see what we offer. Our most
comprehensive adverts are our
Deluxe ads which allow you to put in each room of your home at a time with a
photograph for each room, and also photos for the garden, garage and
outbuildings if required. Of course the more elaborate the advert, the higher
the cost. Our
feature adverts include
most of the things you will need to sell your home fast. And our
Extra Detail adverts
offer a low-cost alternative. If you want to try before you buy, then why not
choose one of our Budget adverts,
they offer basic property details and like all our ads, stay up until sold. The
only difference is, if someone makes an enquiry, you will have to upgrade in
order to respond to them. We believe our
Deluxe ads are the best
available on the web and can even surpass the best estate agent details if you
put them in properly, so there's still a substantial saving to be made by using
us in your property marketing portfolio.
Why doesn't my advert show on the front
page as "Hot off the press" when I have only just put it up?
Your property advert will only show on our front page in the "Hot off the press"
list if you have uploaded a photograph. If somebody puts up an advert after you
which has a photograph, then it will show up before yours. Indeed if you do not
put up a photograph with your ad before 3 people have put up ads after you, then
your property photo will never show on this list
Why can't I put links into my advert?
We prohibit the publishing of Email addresses within your advertisement. This is
because there are people around who will take these from our site and put you on
a mailing list, and you may receive unsolicited mail as a result. If this
happened our site would also become a source of spam for the internet and many
companies would come here to take the data, which would compromise the
performance of our site, which we like to keep as fast as possible for our
bona-fide visitors.
For links to other web sites, you can do this if you want to, providing that you
have the right advert type which will allow the link. There is a box on the edit
advert page which allows web site address to be inserted. If you do not have the
advert which supports this feature, you can always upgrade your advert.
I am putting in a price of £365.000 but it
will not accept it!
Our systems are programmed to only accept properties with a price above £1000.
This is to stop you from getting inundated with enquiries because people think
they are getting more of a bargain than they are.
Please leave out the pound sign when inserting currency, our system presumes the
currency is pounds and will insert this for you later on. Please do not insert
commas or decimal points as this too can confuse our system.

Changing Your Existing Advert
|
|
How do I log in?
When you originally store your property advert on our system. We will store a
cookie on your computer which will mean that next time you visit you should be
able to log in extra fast by clicking the MY
ADVERT link at the top of each page.
For many reasons this might not work, so in that case you have several options.
You can log in from our log in page. Or you
can Find your property on our
system (putting in the first part of your postal cost is usually the quickest),
then once your advet is displayed in full, click the Edit This Advert link at
the top of your advert page.
When logging in you will only need your email address, no password is normally
required. However, if you have forgotton your password, you can use our
lost password page to retrieve it.
I have a property up with you, how do I
mark it as Under offer, or change its status?
First log into your advert You will
then see a status box, from which you can select from SOLD, UNDER OFFER etc.
Just click save changes and all will be done. You property details will remain
on our file, so if your property comes back on the market, you can easily return
to our site and edit it again, or delete it.
I recently reduced the price but notice that the
search engine hasn't updated although the advert has.
Use the "Refresh Search Data button on your advert editing page. Please note, if
you have a budget advert, this button will not be available to you, so you will
have to wait until our search engines are automatically updated, which is about
once per week. Important Information about your advert
|
|
How do people contact me once my advert is up?
Your advert will have a "Contact Vendor" button or link, which visitors can
click if they like the look of your advert and want to find out more, they can
even ask for a viewing etc this way. Normally they will be asked to provide
their email address and telephone number, plus they will be able to leave a
short message for you. You will then be sent this information in the form of a
secure email from our site.
Our email will give you all the details
of the enquiry without disclosing any personal details about you to the
enquirer. You can then choose whether you wish to reply to them or not. Please
note, if you take one of our free adverts, you will not receive the contact
details of the enquirer. However, you will still receive the contact email and
given an option to upgrade your advert to one of our paid adverts at that stage,
wherafter you will be able to obtain all enquirers details from then onwards.
How do see how many people have viewed my
advert.
Go to your advert editing page and look in the visitor information box. The
detail view is the number of people who have viewed your advert in full. There
is also the date and time it was last viewed, you can also see the number of
people who have contacted you, and the details of when and who it was and what
they said.
Please note, some adverts do not allow these features, in particular, our
budget adverts do not normally allow you to see these statistics.
How does your front page Hot Property work?
The hot property feature on our front page shows four properties off to all our
visitors, whether or not they do a search! It takes the last 100 suitable ads
submitted to our site and randomly selects a different set to display every
minute. If you refresh your page every minute, in theory you should see
different homes!
This means that as soon as properties are put up, they could potentially be seen
on the front page feature. Please note, its mainly our more expensive ads which
will show on this feature.
How does your search page Featured Property
work?
The featured property on our search page is displayed at the top of a list of
The featured property on our search page is displayed at the top of a list of
properties when someone searches for something. The advert which appears here is
the last advert placed which meets our selection criteria. Our selection
criteria is continually updated, however, our
choose advert
page normally dictates which adverts will appear here.
Please note,
if your advert appears as a featured property, and then someone else puts up an
advert which fits into our selection criteria for this district then your advert
will cease to be the featured property for this search. Normally, however, your
property will remain featured for several weeks.
I cannot find my property on Fish4Homes and
Portal Sites.
The obvious answer here is that only some types of adverts will appear on Fish4,
normally our most expensive ones. However, the chances are you already know
this, so most likely its that you cannot find your property using the portals
search settings, even though it probably is there.
The main causes for this is that your advert has been designed badly and you
need to make some changes to the layout of the address. Try searching the portal
site for your postal code and the price, you will almost certainly find it that
way. But sometimes if you search for your town, or county, it will not come up.
The most important boxes to complete on your advert editing page with regards to
portals are the town and village. So make sure these have
something in them. For example, the following address:

is not a good layout of your address, because village and town are blank, this
means that if someone searches for Westminster on Fish4 homes, your property
will not come up. However, this layout would be ideal:

This means your property would come up on a search of Westminster and
London.
So, you do not necessarily have to put in a village name in the village box, a
town suburb or another nearby town would be equally ideal.
How do I get a For Sale Board?
For sale boards are free if you have one of our
deluxe adverts, but you will need to order one as many of our advert takers
already have boards from their agent and so we only send them out if
specifically asked for.
For sale boards are also available
to any other of our advert holders at a reasonable cost and can be ordered from
our for sale board page.

Potential Problems with your advert
|
|
My property advert is not showing when I
search for it
Only our paid ads will be immediately available on our search engine. If you
have taken a free ad, it will take some time to propagate to our search engines
and so will not be listed in its district for a few days.
If you want your property to appear immediately, just go to your advert and
click the Improve my Ad button and select one of the paid ads.
If you have paid for an advert and your property still doesn't show, use the
button on your edit advert page which says "Make Advert Live"
When I search for my advert, its showing no
photograph, or the wrong price. But when I click on it, the correct details are
shown.
Our search engines are updated regularly, however, if you happened to advertise
your home with no photograph, and then you decide to upload one, you might find
that it does not immediately appear on our search listings. If you wait a few
days, you should find that your photo shows up perfectly.
When you first place your advert, if you have one of our paid adverts, you can
ensure the photograph shows up immediately without having to wait for our search
engines to be updated, just click the "Refresh Search Data" button and the photo
thumbnail will appear in searches at our site.
The same goes for price changes or changes to the title. For our budget adverts
you will have to wait for changes, whereas our paid adverts give you the ability
to change this instantly by clicking the "Refresh Search Data" button.
When I try and upload a photograph over my
existing one, the site still shows my old photo
A lot of ISP's cache information, especially images, and therefore if you change
your image on our site, it will often not show up for you until some days later,
however, you can rest assured that all viewers visiting your ad will see the
latest photo. To check this out, you can always try to refresh the page on your
browser, or if that doesn't work try holding down ctrl and shift buttons and
click refresh - this should almost certainly show your photo in its current
form. We also have
Refresh Photo buttons on the advert editing screen to assist with this
problem, use them and your photos will show up on that page at least!
I have changed my Price or photo, yet on
the searches and other pages it shows the old photo and / or old price.
Our search engines are independent of your advert and need to be updated each
time you change major information which the search engines use to index your
property. You should therefore click the "Refresh Search Data" button when you
make changes to this information.
For those without this feature
(i.e. budget adverts), you have to wait a few days for our search engines to be
updated automatically.

About My Estate Agent
|
|
How can I ask an estate agent for a
valuation if they are not going to sell my property?
|
Don’t worry, people do this all the time, even if you weren't using us to help
you sell the property most people get at least 2 valuations, but only proceed
with one of them, so its no different to this.
|
|
Should I tell the estate agent I am going
to try and sell it through you?
|
That’s up to you. We would suggest that you say you are thinking of selling your
property and would like a valuation – the estate agent will be happy to oblige.
|
|
Can I sell through you and an estate agent?
|
Yes, you can, you may promote your property with us as well and this should not
effect your rights.
|
|
What if I have a 'Sole Agency' agreement?
|
You may not realise that a sole agency agreement does not normally affect your
right to sell the property privately. Your estate agent is entitled to
commission only if they sell your property, or if a buyer is introduced by
another estate agent during the period of the sole agency.
If you
find a buyer using private advertising, then you won't be liable to pay any
estate agent's commission.
The Office of Fair Trading provide a FREE booklet providing consumer
advice, "Using an estate agent to buy or sell your home". You can order a copy

extremely robust system, which has been checked thoroughly by our experts. We
have never been hacked into in any way, nor had our security system breeched.
Our data has never been passed to anyone and when your advert is deleted all of
its details are wiped from our system forever. We do not give out your details
to anyone at any time. Even enquiries are routed through our servers and no
details are passed on other than those you have specifically requested that we
give.
